Nothing extraordinary. All cupcakes & cake slices were covered in sprinkles....very kiddy. Probably why all were still stocked well into the afternoon. No grown-up versions, so I tried cake slice with apricot filling. Service was polite and friendly. No wow factor for me to return to. If you want run-of-the-mill, this fits your bill.

Maier's bakery is phenomenal! I was throwing a baby shower and was having difficulty finding a bakery that would create the cake I wanted at a reasonable price. I worked with Maier's and they were not only able to create a beautiful cake (and work with me on ideas), but the cake was absolutely delicious! I will not order a cake from anywhere else for future events. Everyone at the shower asked where I ordered the cake because it was so great. If you are looking for a reasonably priced bakery with great food and service - this is your place!

Their double chocolate coffee cake is good. Their other pastries are okay nothing special. I would have to say too I got a spoiled milk from there and all they said was they would credit me my dollar back, really ?? My friend also said that he got spoiled milk from here before too. How gross is that! I would not recommend to buy anything from the refrigerator from here!! It makes me wonder if the milk that is being used for the other pastries is even good. I don't know if I'll return back here since the spoiled milk I bought the other day from here. Was the first time for me to ever drink spoiled milk. It grossed me out completely!

I stopped in here today on National Doughnut Day and they were out of doughnuts at 7:45am. I can't tell you how disappointed I was, not to mention my coworkers who would have enjoyed the bounty along with me. So either they didn't know that it was National Doughnut Day, or they knew that it was National Doughnut Day and they failed to prepare adequately. I'm not sure which is worse, but either way, they lost the sale of two dozen doughnuts and my goodwill. That's really a shame, because the goods here are high quality. I even like their cake doughnut (plain cake with chocolate icing, not just plain cake--blech) which is unheard of for me. In general, their items are not as sweet as most places, which is a pleasant change. I almost never make a morning commute stop which requires a left turn, but Maier's is an exception. It helps that their shop sits between two closely-spaced traffic signals, so it doesn't take too long to find a space in the traffic flow to make the left turn to resume my northbound journey on Waukegan.

Their chocolate covered fry cakes (long johns and bismarcks) are DELICIOUS. The cake doughnuts are good, but not as great as their fry cakes. Depending on the day, you need to get there early for best selection!

I hate to do this to a family business that's been around for 50 years, but I just wasn't impressed. Maybe I've been spoiled? I booked a last minute massage next door, and arrive 15 minutes early... what better way to spend the time than looking at pastries! There were two teenagers working inside, and they were very nice. However, they couldn't tell me anything about the goods!! The bagels are outsouced and delivered (I saw a fly on one too), the cookies look dry and their bread loaves look like they've been hanging out for a while. Coffee cake looked awesome, but was ginormously large. The store was empty, but it's a quiet neigborhood. I don't know how they survive!

I've been going to this bakery for several years and have never been disappointed by any of my purchases. I'm writing this after reading previous reviews, so I'm going to correct or respond to anything written previously. One previous poster wrote that this is a Jewish bakery - they are a German bakery, however, they do have some traditional Jewish baked goods, and can make anything to order at a good price. I've definitely ordered things for holidays that my extended Jewish family loved. One other previous poster said that there are unhelpful teenagers working behind the counter. I know which teenagers you're talking about and I agree, however, they have since been pulled out of the main rotation (Saturdays and some weekdays) and replaced by two very helpful sisters. The same reviewer mentioned that the bagels are outsourced - this is true. The comment about the bread, however, is untrue - it is always fresh and if it's a day old, then it's sold from a separate cart and marked as day old and discounted :) On to my review: Their doughnuts are superior to many other places that sell similar items and if I wasn't worried about obesity, I would eat them for every meal. I particularly enjoy the cream-filled and the jelly-filled ones (especially raspberry filled) The coffee cakes are absolutely great. They stay moist for days and taste great! You can order any flavor you want in advance, or you can show up and pick up one of the great ones they almost always have on hand (apple, chocolate, various fruits). Be warned, however, that the coffee cakes and strudels sell quickly on Saturdays so come in early or order in advance. They also have a great decorator for their cookies and cakes that clearly takes a lot of pride in their work. I came in one time and saw a woman picking up a custom cake that was shaped like a bulldozer - it was really amazing...and I was told by the girls behind the counter that it was completely edible - no plastic parts except for a central post to help support the weight. They don't normally have pies, but I ordered an apple pie once for a summer BBQ and every body was incredibly pleased by it. (The same can be said for their apple strudel) The muffins they have are also very tasty, but I'm not a big muffin fan, so hopefully another reviewer can cover those better!! :-P I also know that at the end of the day, they donate all leftover food and bread to either a church or a homeless shelter because I came in to pick up a late order near closing time and I saw the owner loading up a car that I was told belonged to a mission of some sort and came by at the end of every day to get leftovers. Very generous! Now that I've said lots of positive things, let's move on to things that could maybe be changed: I understand why they don't have a credit-card machine, but maybe get one installed? Taking checks and cash only limits the customer pool a lot and most people are not willing to come back just for a doughnut that they were already buying on impulse... There are a few employees that are really nasty. Luckily, they have more or less been phased out by the two I mentioned previously, but one is a woman maybe in her early thirties? She's really trashy looking...another is a teenage girl that gets stressed easily and starts to snap when there are a lot of customers around...regardless, they get the job done! The last thing I can think of is to have more coffee-cakes and strudels and less doughnuts because the coffee-cakes and strudels sell out before 11am on most days and the doughnuts and muffins last all day with extras left-over... To sum up my review for those with only 30 seconds to read: Go to this bakery! They have great food at great prices! If you want something special, order it in advance and you will not be disappointed!

I've never personally been to the bakery but I've had donuts from it. I have to say they were delicious and classic. No frills, which is fine. I cannot comment on price and customer service.

This is a great mom-n-pop style bakery. Nothing over the top - just good ol' danishes, cookies, cakes, and bread. They are known for their variety of outstanding coffee cakes. They are BIG and delicious (kids like the chocolate chip, we like the pecan). I've also been very satisfied with the specialty cakes that I've ordered for parties and special events. The loafs of wheat bread and cinnamon-raisin bread are our favorites! Check them out - you'll never return to the "bakery" at Jewel, Dominicks, etc.

One of my coworkers is Polish, so every year we give him crap about bringing us paczkis, a Polish jelly filled donut. This year, he did call around to the local Polish bakeries, but everywhere was sold out. Thanks to my senior citizen ways (aka listening to WGN 720 AM), I found out that a non-Polish bakery was also making them. I called the order in the night before and my boss, a Glenview resident, was willing to make the pick up on the way to work. HOLY COW! These things were awesome!! There are like 30 flavors. We ordered at least a dozen! My faves? Nutella, raspberry, cannoli...gosh, I can't even remember them all, but they were all pretty good! I did not personally step foot in here, but my boss said since it was "Paczki Day" it was pretty crowded. He had to wait a little bit in line. Thank goodness we called the order in because they admit that if you do not, they end up running out later in the morning. So this Paczki Day is like the last day to "fatten up" before lent and coincides with lent and the Easter holiday. However, they are going to continue to offer them until March 11th. So, we are going to do one more order before the end of "Paczki season" lol. I may make the next trip so I can embrace the whole experience!!

This is a good Jewish bakery, but the customer service could use some work. There is nothing worse then having a snippy helper behind the counter when I'm trying to start the day. Any question asked about the baked goods was as if I was sticking a knife in her back. Ouch! But, once getting all the goods and eating them, they were delicious. All were very fresh and authentic. Just because you're a family business that has been around for 50 years doesn't mean you can't have a little bit of a personality behind the counter. I mean, come on! I have a hard enough time waking up in the morning with a smile on my face!

Have had various cookies and treats from Maier's and never been disappointed. Whenever I need to bring in a breakfast treat for work, I pick up one of their great coffee cakes. As with any popular bakery, get there early for the best selection!

Quality ingredients. No perservatives. Friendly family owned service. I buy from them for my Coffee Shop in the city, and my customers love their cookies, pastries, and eclairs. Not fancy, but reasonably priced with killer smell and taste.

I normally get my Maier's fix from their booth at the Morton Grove Farmers' Market. When there's no market, I go into the bakery for french bread, baguettes and foccacia bread (great for sandwiches!). I'm cutting back on sweets, but whenever I visit someone else's house, I pick up a couple of coffee cakes or a dozen danishes or doughnuts from Frank or the friendly Maier's staff. These goodies are always well received. This year, I plan to try one of their famous paczki's - they are available for a month before and a month after Fat Tuesday. I'm eyeing the Nutella or Banana/Custard filled ones!
